The Costa Brava is the rocky coastline of Catalonia in north-east Spain, known for its coves, cliff roads and fishing villages. One tour here uses it: the Costa Brava Coast Road, a 118 km full day with 1,650 m of climbing between coves and a seafood lunch stop. The coast road rises and drops constantly, so the climbing adds up even though no single hill is huge. It is a hard day for well-trained road riders, and it is a very different experience from the city and gravel rides elsewhere on this site.
The coast road twists above small coves and rocky headlands, with views that change every few kilometres. Short, steep ramps are frequent, so it rewards riders who can climb repeatedly without wearing out.
The tour listed here covers 118 km with 1,650 m of climbing, mostly on the cliff road between coves. Expect constant rolling terrain rather than one long ascent, and a lunch stop with seafood part-way round.
Late spring and early autumn are the most comfortable months. Summer is busy and hot, especially on the coast, and traffic on the coast road is heavier, so early starts help. Strong wind can make exposed sections harder.
Check the meeting point with the partner before booking, as this tour starts in Catalonia rather than in the city of Palma. Plan your travel to the start in advance and allow time for the transfer.
